Cigars from Ernesto Padilla—son of Cuban dissident Heberto Padilla—are set to return to French cigar shops.

Padilla Cigars has announced that NProximité is its new distributor for France.

NProximité is the group formed by the alliance between NAP (holder of the customs license for tobacco distribution and the “Maison de la Presse” retail chain) and Néodis (a specialist in distribution to tobacconists, newsagents, and local shops). In addition to certain machine-made cigar brands (Fleur de Savane, Meccarillos), it already distributes Monte-Carlo Club and Casa 1910 cigars.

“This partnership carries special meanings for the Padilla family,” the statement continues. “Ernesto Padilla’s father, Heberto Padilla, was one of the greatest Cuba’s foremost 20th century poets. His work received considerable recognition in France, where he appeared on French television and was featured in leading newspapers and literary publications. The international impact of the ‘Padilla Affair’ established a lasting cultural connection between the Padilla family and France” (see L’Amateur de Cigare English Edition, issue No. 10).

Together, we look forward to introducing more French cigar enthusiasts to our portfolio while building the Padilla brand for generations to come.”

Padilla was distributed by Eurotab for a time during 2023–2024.

The press release does not specify exactly when Padilla cigars will be available for sale but states that initial shipments are scheduled “once all regulatory requirements have been met.”

Nine products are listed in the Journal Officiel, notably five from the Finest Hour line and the special 88th Anniversary edition in the Robusto size.
