“We need to produce more than 80 million cigars in the factories. And deliver more than 70 million for export,” declared Marino Murillo, president of Tabacuba, during a visit to the province of Pinar del Rio, reported on June 2 by the Cuban national television channel Canal Caribe.<\/p>\n
The province, located in the west of the island, accounts for 65% of the country’s raw material production, while cigar exports, according to Marino Murillo, bring in more than $100 million in cash to the country.<\/p>\n
According to our sources, cigar production for export was approximately 60 million units by 2024. The official target therefore represents a production increase of approximately 17%.<\/p>\n
Tabacuba is the Cuban state-owned company that oversees all tobacco and cigar production on the island, from fields to factories. Tabacuba supplies Habanos S.A. with cigars for export.
