Habanos SA: turnover up 15% in 2021
The Havana-based group announces $568 million in revenue in 2021 and promises an event for Cohiba’s 55th anniversary in Cuba in September.
“The 2021 results confirm the solid path we are on, despite the crisis caused by Covid-19.”, said Luis Sanchez-Harguindey and Inocente Nuñez Blanco, Habanos SA’s co-president in a press release.
Habanos SA posted a turnover of $568 million in 2021, up 15% compared to the previous year. A figure which is quite astonishing given the weakness of the supplies observed everywhere in the world for more than a year. Habanos SA, however, claims to have seen “a gradual improvement in supplies” since the first quarter of 2022.
Habanos SA also publishes the list of its 5 main markets (in volume): Spain, China, Germany, France, Switzerland. China must therefore give up the leading position it had obtained last year. The breakdown by continent is very close to that of the previous year: Europe represents 59% of Cuban cigars sales in volume (60% in 2020), ahead of the Asia-Pacific zone (16%), the Americas (14%) and Africa-Middle East (11%).
A gala evening in Havana in September
The other information in this press release is that Habanos will be organizing a gala evening for the 55th anniversary of the Cohiba brand on September 9 in Havana. Details will be announced later. This will be the first event organized by Habanos SA in Cuba for more than two years, as the 2021 and 2022 festivals were canceled due to Covid-19.
