The Honduras Cigar Festival will take place from January 22 to 25.

As the last of the four major producing nations yet to host an international festival, Honduras is preparing to take a significant step forward in promoting its cigar industry. Following a meeting between President Nasry Asfura and representatives of the Honduran Tobacco Artisans Council (CATAH), authorities announced the creation of an event dedicated entirely to premium cigars: the Honduras Cigar Festival. Its inaugural edition is scheduled for January 22–25, 2027—the week prior to the PuroSabor festival held in neighboring Nicaragua.

Several manufacturers—including Maya Selva, Nestor Plasencia, and Julio Eiroa—organized a gathering called “Humo Jaguar” back in 2011, but it failed to establish a lasting presence on the international calendar. Despite ranking as the world’s second or third-largest exporter of premium cigars (depending on the period), Honduras has until now lacked an annual event capable of showcasing its entire industry.

With the Honduras Cigar Festival, the government and the industry aim to change that. The official announcement followed a meeting held this Thursday, August 20, at the Casa Presidencial between the head of state and CATAH representatives.

According to initial reports, the festival will span four days. It will begin in Tegucigalpa before moving to the Danlí region in the south—the true heart of the country’s tobacco production.

A detailed program has not yet been released. Reports in the Honduran press suggest the usual lineup of events: a gala dinner, tastings, visits to plantations and factories, and various professional networking sessions.

Reservations are not yet open, and the event does not appear to have a website yet. However, several sources involved in the organization promise that detailed information will be released in the coming weeks. CATAH is chaired by Nestor Plasencia, while the executive secretariat is led by Hector Valladares. Other industry representatives, such as Christian Eiroa and Agustin Garcia (STG), participated in the meeting with the Honduran president.
