60 Years Of Cohiba: S.T. Dupont Unveils (Part Of) Its Collection
Since noon on June 8th, Cohiba enthusiasts have finally been able to discover part of the brand’s 60th anniversary collection. Only part, however, as a second batch of items is expected in November.
The patience of Cohiba lovers has been partially rewarded. After several months of waiting, S.T. Dupont has officially launched its accessories collection created in collaboration with Habanos S.A. to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Cuba’s most prestigious brand. The launch will take place in two stages: the first part was unveiled on Monday, June 8th, and the rest will be released next November.
Traditionally, S.T. Dupont and Habanos S.A. unveil their collaboration during the Festival del Habano in Cuba. However, this event, initially scheduled for last February, has been postponed indefinitely due to the energy crisis affecting the island.
This collection, created by S.T. Dupont and Habanos, is available now on the French brand’s website, although some items are already sold out. It should also be available soon in stores and authorized retailers, both in France and abroad, as these have been supplied in recent weeks.
The Choice Between Three Lighters
In detail, this first chapter of the collection offers lighters, an ashtray, a cigar cutter, a cigar case that can hold three cigars, and a pair of cufflinks. The most interesting items for enthusiasts and collectors are undoubtedly the lighters.
The most affordable is the table lighter version (€690 on the S.T. Dupont website), which features dual ignition (soft flame and torch flame) and displays the official anniversary logo on its black lacquered body: the famous Taíno Indian head between the intertwined numbers 6 and 0.
The enthusiast willing to spend €2,000 can acquire the Line 2 soft-flame model, which, in our opinion, is one of the most original (photo above). The Indian head isn’t just affixed to the surface; it actually pierces the entire thickness of the lighter. This design will remind some of the James Bond model released in 2015 for the film Spectre, which simulated the impact of a bullet passing through the lighter’s body.
For aficionados with even more to spend, the Le Grand Dupont model, with double ignition, can be purchased for €2,300 (photo below). The creators of S.T. Dupont have opted for a more timeless design. There’s no 60th-anniversary logo, but rather a variation on the front, featuring the brand’s Taïno head surrounded by lines that echo its shape and flare out, creating an impression of movement or a spiral. Both lighter lines share a common feature: their edges reproduce the Cohiba checkerboard pattern with a guilloché relief effect. And each of these models will be produced in a limited edition of only 1,966 pieces, a nod to the year the Cohiba brand was founded.
Variations By The “Haute Création” Workshop
Finally, for those with deeper pockets, S.T. Dupont plans to celebrate this anniversary with several lighters produced by its “Haute Création” workshop. A model in the “Complication Jackpot” collection is available to order. For this special occasion, each use of this miniature slot machine triggers the display of winning combinations: CO-HI-BA, MA-DU-RO, BE-HI-KE, or 14-9-2. No price has been announced yet.
Furthermore, S.T. Dupont will also offer, through this high-end workshop, gold versions of the Le Grand Dupont model (featuring diamonds for the brand’s famous checkerboard pattern) and the Ligne 2.
