The measure aims to strengthen the authenticity of cigars sold on the island, according to Habanos S.A.

For cigars sold on the Cuban domestic market, this new mark will be added to the other seals or identifiers affixed to the boxes and cases (“Denominación de Origen Protegida” sticker and tax seal).

The Cuban market identification label will have a different color each year. For 2024, the chosen color is green.

This label has already been visible on some boxes sold in points of sale in Cuba for a few days. It will gradually be generalized. It includes the text: “VMC Venta Mercado Cubano” or Cuban Domestic Market Sale.

The seal incorporates special technological features that guarantee its authenticity, explains Habanos S.A. without giving further details.
