Power outage: work resumes in Havana factories
After a general power outage lasting several days, power is gradually returning to the island. The cigar factories of the capital have resumed work.
The collapse of Cuba’s electricity system had limited consequences for work in cigar factories.
The general outage occurred late Friday morning, October 18, prematurely ending the working day of torcedores and other factory employees.
According to our sources, although the Cuban government announced on Monday October 21 the closure of non-essential services for at least three days, the El Laguito factory (Cohiba), returned to work on Monday October 21, while the other production sites in Havana were able to resume their activity this Tuesday, October 22.
The cigar is one of the country’s main sources of foreign currency alongside nickel and tourism.
According to the latest figures provided this Tuesday morning by the official press, 90% of Havana’s residents are now once again supplied with electricity. In the provinces, on the other hand, only 37% of subscribers are served.
